How many pecks would a woodpecker peck if a woodpecker would peck a peck or runners? Well, this woodpecker wouldn't peck a peck or runners would he? Of course not, he loves runners! How much? Why a bushel and a peck, and a hug around the neck, if he could just stretch his pecks that far. So much does he love runners that courtesy of Gary Bloomfield he is our 2005 Feature Creature. You may see him, or at least hear him, on Bull Creek Road, or on the Avenue of the Giants portion of the race course. His pecks are his way of cheering on the runners in the various races. Notice, he doesn't have an ivory bill.
