Lots of runners fly to the Avenue of Giants race, but how many fly their own

"Seattle approach, Cessna 8926B, request Flight Following from Crest Airpark
to Arcata California."

I made the first radio call which got us "into the system." It was the
beginning of a beautiful flight from Seattle to the Avenue of Giants 10K, carrying
three eager (well, really only two eager) runners. Julie Stiles and daughter,
Marianne Stiles were eager to return to Arcata to run the incredible course
through the redwoods. I was eager to make the flight, which would be the
longest I had ever done in my Cessna 172.

Julie and Marianne Stiles won first place in their age groups, and I had a
great time flying (and managed a second place finish in my age group.) Thank you
for a great race organization and beautiful course. Our trip was a success
in every way.
